Ever since I stumbled across H&M a few years back, they’ve become my go-to store for all of the essentials, and some non-essentials. My trips for the trendier items are often hit or miss, and I’m often sent scurrying out of there to be free of the frenzied teeny boppers, running around the store with armfuls of clothing, pawing and snatching at whatever happens to be in reach, with little or no regard for whomever happens to be in their way. I think back and wonder if I was ever that ga-ga over shopping, and the answer is always the same. No. I’m more like a guy when it comes to shopping, I approach shopping like I’m on a tactical swat team. Get in, get out, accomplish the mission with as few casualties as possible! In light of this, I really do love fashion. I’m just not willing to devote an entire weekend to it seeking it out. What I am willing to do, is boil the kettle, pour myself a steaming pot of my favorite Earl Grey blend, pull out my credit card, and spend a good hour perusing my favorite fashion websites. Sadly, H&M isn’t available in Canada online, but, H&M Fashion Star was! Rarely am I seduced by one or more pieces in a designers collection, but I lost the plot and bought six pieces from designers Kara Laricks, Ronnie Escalante, Nzimiro Oputa and Orly Shani. I’m in love with every single item except for one of them, and every time I’ve worn any of them out around town, they’ve been quite the conversation starter.
Admittedly, I became a little addicted and thankfully, it didn’t overlap with Project Runway (yes, I too secretly dream of becoming the next Stella McCartney!) And if you’re sitting there wondering what the hell I’m rambling on about, Fashion Star was a reality tv show (oh don’t roll your eyes at me, you know you’re addicted to that junk) that featured designers who created pieces (with the aid of celebrity mentors) to be picked up by major American stores. The 2012 season was Macy’s, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue. As I mentioned above, I’m not easily swayed by an entire line of clothing, but I couldn’t resist! Check out the Fashion Star collection below and let me know what you think!
This is the dress that I’m wearing above, and it has this fabulous vintage look to it. It features a drop waist that uniquely scoops just above the derriere. There’s also some pleating down the centre of the back that you won’t find on many designs. Love it.
I’ll be wearing this beautiful little frock to a wedding this weekend, but I featured it in one of my blog posts for eFashionHQ so you can check it out here.
Though this looks red in the picture, it’s actually sort of orangy. It does have some sheen to it, and it’s a great summer basic.
It’s all about prints this summer, and I couldn’t resist this little satin number. It’s quite fitted around the bosoms ladies, so avoid padded bras because there’s no give in the material.
This was the only piece that I was disappointed with, and it could have had nothing to do with the design and everything to do with my 5 foot 5 figure. It seems it was designed for women with midsections that go on for miles! Oh well, can’t win ’em all.
